About Us

Six Herbs is a natural wellness resource built around six powerful plants: moringa, tamarind, fenugreek, sea moss, elderberry, and yellow dock root.

Each one carries centuries of traditional use, a growing body of scientific research, and a genuine place in daily wellness routines around the world.

This is not a site about trends. It is a site about plants that have been trusted for generations, and what the evidence actually says about why.

Why Six Herbs Exist

Most herb content online treats plants as isolated health products. A capsule for this. A powder for that. That is not how anyone who has truly lived with herbs thinks about them.

Chims Clements, the author behind Six Herbs, grew up in Aba, Abia State, Eastern Nigeria, in a family compound where herbs were simply part of how life worked.

His grandmother grew uziza along the backyard trees, utazi in the garden corners, and kept alligator pepper, ose oji, from the family farm nearby.

She dug fresh ginger from the earth when someone coughed.

She knew which plants went into the pepper soup, which ones were given to women who had just given birth, which ones settled the stomach, and which ones gave the broths their depth.

She did not learn this from books. It was the accumulated knowledge of a community that had lived closely with plants for generations.

She passed away in 2017, and left a herb garden tha have spread and expanded.

The same uziza spreading its tentacles to more trees. The same utazi spreads its bitter leaves dominating the same corners. The same ginger pushing through the same soil.

The knowledge did not leave with the woman who tended them. It was passed down through the way she lived, and it informs everything written on this site.

Six Herbs exists because that kind of knowledge deserves to be shared honestly, not dressed up as a wellness trend or buried in academic papers that most people cannot read.

It deserves a home where traditional wisdom and modern research sit side by side and are treated with equal seriousness.

How We Approach Herbs

Six Herbs takes a three-layer approach to every herb it covers.

Traditional and Cultural Knowledge

These plants were used in communities long before clinical trials existed.

That traditional knowledge, how they were prepared, what they were used for, how they fit into daily life, is part of the story, and it deserves to be told alongside the science, not instead of it.

Personal Lived Experience

Six Herbs is written by Chims Clements, who grew up in Eastern Nigeria, where herbs like moringa and tamarind were everyday household plants, not exotic supplements.

That lived familiarity with these plants shapes how every article on this site is written: from the inside, not from a research distance. Read his story here.

Scientific Research

Where clinical studies, peer-reviewed research, and credible nutritional science exist, Six Herbs uses them.

Where the evidence is limited, mixed, or preliminary, we say so clearly rather than presenting false certainty.

All three layers together produce content that is more honest and more useful than either pure tradition or pure research alone.

What Six Herbs Cover

Six Herbs goes deep on six herbs rather than covering hundreds superficially. Each herb has its own dedicated library covering the full picture.

Moringa: One of the most nutritionally dense plants on earth. Six Herbs covers moringa leaves, powder, oil, pods, seeds, tea, and the full range of moringa’s health applications, alongside honest coverage of its limitations and safety considerations.

Tamarind: A deeply versatile plant used in cooking, traditional medicine, and daily wellness across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Six Herbs covers the fruit, the leaves, the powder, the seeds, and what the research says about tamarind’s digestive, metabolic, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Fenugreek: One of the most studied herbs for blood sugar management, hormonal health, and digestive support. Six Herbs covers fenugreek seeds, leaves, powder, and the research behind its traditional uses.

Sea moss: A marine plant with an extraordinary mineral profile that has gained global attention for its potential wellness benefits. Six Herbs covers sea moss gel, powder, capsules, and different varieties, with an honest assessment of what the evidence supports.

Elderberry: Widely used for immune support, particularly during cold and flu season. Six Herbs covers elderberry in its different forms and what the clinical research actually shows.

Yellow Dock Root: A traditional herb used for digestive support and as a source of plant-based iron. Six Herbs covers its traditional uses, nutritional profile, and safe application.

Who Six Herbs Is For

Six Herbs is for people who take their wellness seriously and want honest information they can act on.

People who are curious about herbs and want to understand them properly.

People who have been using herbs for years and want to go deeper. People who are tired of hype and want something they can trust.

It is not for people looking for miracle cures. Herbs are powerful and valuable. They are not magic.

Growing With Purpose

Six Herbs began with six plants. But the vision behind this site is larger than that.

Once we have covered our founding six herbs with the depth and thoroughness they deserve, Six Herbs will expand into the broader world of West African indigenous herbs.

The plants our forefathers used for wellness, food, medicine, and ceremony.

Plants like:

Local NameEnglish NameScientific Name
UzizaWest African Black PepperPiper guineense
UtaziAfrican Bitter Leaf VineGongronema latifolium
Alligator PepperGrains of ParadiseAframomum melegueta
EhuruAfrican NutmegMonodora myristica
UdaNegro PepperXylopia aethiopica
NchanwuAfrican Basil / Scent LeafOcimum gratissimum
UyayakAidan Fruit / PrekeseTetrapleura tetraptera

…and dozens of others that have sustained communities across West Africa for centuries but remain almost invisible on the global wellness stage.

These herbs are not primitive alternatives to modern medicine. They are sophisticated, time-tested botanical knowledge that the world has simply not paid enough attention to yet.

The global wellness industry has embraced moringa and tamarind. It has barely scratched the surface of what West African herb culture has to offer.

Six Herbs intends to change that. One plant at a time, with the same honesty, depth, and personal familiarity that has guided this site from the beginning.

Because if these herbs were good enough for our grandmothers, they are good enough for the world to know about.
